Route Overview
Every Path Has a Story
Kilimanjaro offers multiple routes to Uhuru Peak, each with distinct scenery, difficulty, and acclimatisation profiles. The right route depends on your experience, your timeline, and what you want the mountain to mean to you. We will guide you through the choice.
Lemosho Route
THE SCENIC HIGHLANDS
Our most recommended route. Longer acclimatisation, extraordinary wilderness, and some of the finest panoramas on the mountain. Ideal for those who want the full Kilimanjaro experience with the best odds of reaching the summit.
Machame route
THE WHISKEY ROUTE
Dramatic, varied terrain through rainforest, moorland, and alpine desert. The most popular scenic route on the mountain — challenging, rewarding, and unforgettable.
Marangu Route
THE CLASSIC PATH
Rongai Route
THE QUIET ASCENT
Approaching from the remote northern side, the Rongai offers genuine wilderness and minimal crowds. A steadier gradient makes it accessible for first-time climbers seeking something off the beaten path.
The only route with hut accommodation, making it ideal for those who prefer not to camp. Shorter acclimatisation means a lower summit rate, we recommend extending to 6 days where possible to improve your odds.
Northern Circuit
THE ULTIMATE TRAVERSE
Shira Route
HIGH ALTITUDE WILDERNESS
The longest route on the mountain, circumnavigating Kilimanjaro's northern slopes. Exceptional acclimatisation, near-solitude on the trail, and the highest summit success rates available. For those who want to do this properly.
Beginning at altitude on the Shira Plateau, this route rewards with extraordinary high-altitude scenery and relative quiet. Merges with the Lemosho route on upper sections. Excellent for photographers and nature lovers.
