This one’s personal, it’s about why we do what we do.

Simon Sinek taught the world to “Start With Why.” Too few people truly ask it. If more did, imagine the shifts: people leaving unfulfilling jobs, new businesses born, and a lot more happiness.
For years I stayed in a job that drained me, tied down by obligations. I chased escape through hiking, fitness, and short bursts of adventure, fixes that never gave me a lasting why.
Then I met Zizu, a friend who changed everything.
Zizu’s why is simple and powerful, to build a climbing company that treats guides and porters with dignity and fairness, and to give climbers an unforgettable experience. He’s seen what happens when organizations cut pay and exploit generations who have no path out of poverty. He refuses to accept that as the norm.
On Kilimanjaro I witnessed people in power, tolerate even perpetuate disrespect. I saw porters and guides trapped in a cycle that echoed through families. Hearing Zizu’s vision and his relentless work ethic made me realise this was my why too: to help create something that genuinely improves lives.
The best reward isn’t money, it’s knowing someone’s life got better because you cared enough to act. Zizu carries climbers’ whys with him, climbing for a lost loved one, for a cause, or simply to tick off a lifelong dream, and he does everything possible to get them to the summit.
Now it’s his turn.
Climb Kilimanjaro with Vertical Sky and you’ll do more than reach the top: you’ll support fair pay and real opportunity for the people who make the climb possible. This isn’t charity it’s fair work and dignity.
