How Kilimanjaro brought my family closer

Taking the kids on holiday is always an adventure. Yet, what you cherish versus what they love can often be worlds apart. I've organized countless trips—five-star hotels, luxury dinners, and business class flights—but did my kids really care? Not at all.

And that's perfectly normal because they're simply being kids!

Here's the irony: if you ask them about their favorite trip, they'd say camping in a windy, wet tent in Dorchester! This taught me a valuable lesson: they craved time and attention, while I wanted them to appreciate luxury.

Thankfully, I realized this early. Spending quality time with my kids, sharing experiences, and strengthening our bond outweighed any luxury holiday.

We embarked on real adventures—hiking, camping, and pushing our limits with each trip. Then, we tackled the climb of a lifetime—Kilimanjaro! The roof of Africa transformed everything.

We spent months talking about the adventure, planning, and imagining the experience. Once we were there, without phone signals, something magical happened. Conversations deepened, laughter roared, and stories unraveled. In seven days, we learned more about one another than in years.

I'd recommend family adventures over any holiday.

Choose experiences that unite, not distance.

We created Vertical Sky for two reasons: to uplift those working on the mountain with better pay and conditions, and to help families capture that cherished closeness. If I can facilitate that joy for others, then I am truly winning.
